Sorry yet again for my absence from this blog. Since I got back from the Labour conference in Manchester things have been dead busy.
There are so many things I've wanted to blog about but haven't had time to, so here's a quick catch-up:
1. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is now writing recipes for the Guardian's Weekend magazine. This week it's mackerel and sprats - two of my favourite fish. You can also read a feature in which he talks about how he became a food writer in the first place (by being sacked as a chef at the famous River Cafe restaurant) and listen to him talking to Emma Brockes.
2. Speaking of which, I have received an invite to River Cottage from its managing director Rob Love. How exctiting, I thought, until I remembered something. Regular readers may recall that about a year ago, I had some harsh words on this blog for a River Cottage charity auction. It was a small quibble, and with an interesting new TV series in the pipeline and a new book on the shelves, Hugh's going from strength to strength.
I am still a huge Hugh fan, and will jump at the chance of a visit as soon as I can get down to Dorset. I'll probably end up writing something about it for the Guardian's still-quite-new Environment site, and of course, you'll also hear about it right here on Horticultural.
3. Organic Gardening Magazine - my favourite monthly mag on gardening, now has a website. It doesn't carry all the content from the mag but you can read the monthly guide to what to be getting up to in your garden and on the veg patch, plus editor Gaby Bartai Bevan's diary.
4. While allotment and gardening time has been virtually non-existent this past months, I am still able to revel in past glories - not least the pumpkin harvest. Above is a pic of the base of one of the two big Rouge Vif D'Etampes sitting in my garage waiting to be eaten. More pictures to come in a separate post ...
