Mouse & Trowel awards - nominations open

Nominations for the 2008 Mouse & Trowel garden blogging awards are now open.

I wouldn't want to influence anyone (much), but why not head over and contribute your tuppence? It would be good to see a few British garden bloggers featured in the various categories.

The worms fend for themselves for a fortnight On reflection, my decision to check on my wormery a couple of hours after returning home from a transatlantic journey of many hours, while still intensely jetlagged, furry-toothed and empty-stomached was a foolish one. Normally I feel nothing but pride for my slithery charges, but at that moment, the sight made me want to heave. I was rather anxious about leaving them to their own devices for a fortnight, so soon after the wormery had been set up. Becoming a bunny boiler? My worst fears have been confirmed. The holes dug in my raised beds that I'd blithely assumed were the work of one of the small dogs that occasionally roam the plot. But on a recent visit I clocked the poo pellets on the path - the final confirmation of the bad news that rabbits were responsible. We've never had a bunny infestation before on the site, as far as I know. My plot is right on the edge facing open farmland, so it's a wonder there's not been a problem before now. I have to admit to feeling rather downhearted...
