I snapped this coral-like fungus on a recent visit to the Ryton HQ of Garden Organic. It was small - about 1-2cm across, with no discernible smell.
I've checked the excellent gallery of fungi pictures on the Wild About Britain website and my one (admittedly not very good) fungus book, so I am hoping one of you can help.
It was a lovely day and we ate lunch in the centre's award winning organic restaurant, which I highly recommend. I took lots of pictures and gained some interesting new wildlife gardening ideas which I'll share in an upcoming post.

No, not a Judas Ear fungas, it doesn't have the gills and is more browney-orange and gelatinous. I wondered if it was orange peel fungus, but that doesn't have the gills either. Actually, I rather suspect it might be a bit of old satsuma peel and not a fungus at all!

I know it looks pretty unreal but trust me, it was a fungus! There were a couple of flies on it, one of which you can see on the far right of the picture. Anyone got any other ideas?
