All the news that's fit to compost

Just found this blog, dedicated to news from the world (and yes, it is a world) of composting toilets.

If you want to have your very own composting toilet, perhaps in the garden to save those "tramping in the house with muddy boots" moments, you can even build your own, as volunteers at Oxford Community Garden did.

Let's just say this is - unfortunately - way, way down my to-do list, languishing with things I'd love to do in my dreams, like building my own log cabin in the wilderness, that kind of thing ...

A berry prickly problem - can I harvest holly from a hedge? I am not sure if this is a moral question or a legal one - probably both. But I am sure a Horticultural reader out there will know the answer. We've decided against a Christmas tree this year - with a newly-crawling baby in the house who is attracted to anything sparkly and likely to topple over, it seemed like a sensible move. Shed of the week - the make do and mend This week's shed embodies one of the central concepts of allotmenteering - the make do and mend approach that was so necessary during world war two.
