Here's a new (to me) blog I've been meaning to mention for ages - The Veg Box Diaries.Bloggers named "Gastropunk" and "Maths chick" record their culinary adventures with a weekly veg box delivery.

I rather fancy trying their chard and sausage pie recipe.

Coriander conundrum: why does it always bolt? I love coriander: it's up there with flat parsley as my top herbs. I doggedly grow it every year, but unfailingly it bolts, even when I buy the special "non-bolting" type. For those not aware of the jargon, bolting simply means that a plant that you are growing for its leaves decides to flower and set seed when what you want it to do is produce copious foliage. First tomato of 2006 This was the very first tomato of the year from the plot. It looked so cute propped up against a courgette that I could hardly bear to eat it. Actually, when I did eat it the flavour wasn't particularly good. How disappointing! The variety was Whippersnapper, a pinkish-red cherry tom that has a reputation for ripening early, but the flavour just wasn't there. While it might not win any taste contests, I think this little fruit might just be in with a chance if only Dr Charles had decided to include a "cutest tomato" category in his tomato contest ......
