Red (tomato) alert

Dscn1646Ladies and gentlemen, we have liftoff!

I am talking ripe Gardeners' Delight, Whippersnapper and San Marzano tomatoes. They're all deliciously sweet and doubtless worth all the hard work to get them to this stage.

Such a beautiful sight, that is. Mine are just starting to ripen now too. I love it.

Mine too I think I will have the first one tomorrow or the next day. They are worth all the effort though.

Aubergine in bloom This is the first flower on my aubergine plants (sounds so much more classy than the US word "eggplant"). If the fruit's anything like as gorgeous as the bloom, I'll be delighted. The hot weather should make for a good harvest, I hope. I am not sure exactly what I am getting, because it was a mixed packet. Given the huge variety of types in the aubergine family, I could end up with anything. Please pass on any good aubergine recipes, because it's not something I cook with a lot. It's a potato ... First potatoes have been harvested ... the blight-resistant Orla, and a few Arran Victory that somehow got mixed in. They were eaten as spicy potato wedges with some homemade (not by me) genuine Cajun seasoning. Just cut up into slices, covered in olive oil and roasted on a baking tray with a sprinkling of Jamie's secret recipe, and served up nice and crispy.
