The Major, the allotment cat Rick and I have been feeding, worming and flea-ing and generally trying to keep alive, is looking the best I've seen him for ages.
I guess it's a lot easier for him to find food during the summer months, so his fur is growing back and he's put on some weight. His tail is still a shadow of its former bushy self, but his eyes are clear at least.
Here he is enjoying the fading sunlight on my neighbour's plot. I've seen him a couple of times more recently - he always rushes over because he knows he'll be fed, then hangs about while we do the watering.
I am a dog person, but I like the Major because he acts like a dog. The temptation to put him in my gardening bag and take him home was only just resisted on my last trip to the plot ...
Ohhh, go on Jane - take him home!
One of our cats, Cheekylina had a similar history - she kept visting our shop and customers would walk round the store with her in their arms...we'd feed her but that was all...then she started looking like she was expecting, so we took her to the vets who confirmed it...so as it was mid-winter we took her home with us...that was about 4 years ago, and she still lives at home with us....and the kittens never appeared! She's still a real outdoors cat though and spends 23.5 hours a day outdoors, rain or shine....so if the Major does move home with you, you might not see much of him...
You could always put a catflap in your allotment shed, so he has somewhere dry and warm to go if he needs it!

"It's that time again ... what on earth to do with all those courgettes?"
Jane,
My significant other grated ours and used to make a wonderful bread just this afternoon. It was wonderful!
