Another allotment blog

I've found a new blog to add to our happy allotmenteering online community. It's Allotment 21, where Frankie and Mel are starting out on their plot, "occasionally helped by their husbands Nick and Steve". Things are looking good so far, with a lovely little shed in place and lots of manure shovelled. You're way ahead of me, ladies ... well done!

Going green, circa 1973 My dad found a copy of the 1973 publication you see to the right and gave it to me. I was reading it on the train on the way home tonight and it's a fascinating snapshot of the birth of the green/hippy/homesteading movement of the early 1970s. (Almost) total recall I guess I was an unusual child. I spent a lot of time reading books about houseplants, and memorising their Latin names. Strangely, I have never forgotten those tongue twisting titles and I'm prone to blurting them out at embarrassing moments: when someone shows me a new plant they've bought I'll say "oh, that's a lovely Dracaena marginata triclour!"
