Did you know Nigel Slater had a blog?

It hasn't been updated since November last year, mind. It looks like something Nigel Slater (a very fine food writer, for the uninitiated) has been asked to do by his publisher to promote his latest book, but he hasn't had time to keep up to date. A shame, because the couple of posts that are there are interesting reading.

Finally: a cold frame! After many hours of grappling, and being sent the wrong bits, I now have one double decker cold frame! I can't face putting the other one up yet, but this one should do for now. It can at least take the overflow from my lounge windowsill. One of the annoying things about my house is the lack of windowsills wider than the palm of your hand. The only ones are in the lounge, so that's always packed with plants, and in the kitchen, but that one's too narrow and shady to provide much in the way of staging for seedlings....

Carry on composting Good to see that allotmenteers are leading the way when it comes to what I call the complete recycling experience - composting toilets. This is Leicestershire reports: Allotment users could soon be helping their gardens grow - by going to the toilet. Plot holders at the Washbrook site in Knighton, Leicester, are planning to install a £4,000 "composting lavatory" to help keep their soil fertile. I just hope all the keen volunteers don't disappear a year later when it's time to shovel out the fully composted result of everyone's visits ...
