From the look of this blog's stats, a lot of people are coming here searching for the recipe for the cheesecake with damson sauce Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall made in his River Cottage Road Trip TV show a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately I don't have it, and I can't find it on Hugh's River Cottage HQ site either: I guess he's holding it back for his next book.
Perhaps I can suggest an alternative: a recipe for Hugh's chocolate and chestnut truffle cake is on his site. I won't be fobbed off with a Christmas cake: This is what I'll be making to eat this festive season. It's probably my all time favourite cake recipe, and was described as being "orgasmically good" by my dinner guests last time I served it. Plus it's wheat free, which is handy if you're gluten intolerant. It's particularly yummy when served with mascarpone cheese.
You're lucky - lots of people are coming to my site looking for far less 'wholesome' things. *Shudder*

Hi Jane
Funny that you should have this chocolate chestnut cake recipe - I've had a very similar and even simpler recipe for years which came from Frances Bissell writing in another newspaper some 10-12 years ago. Incredibly rich and very easy! (Old enough that I only have imperial measurements!)
Frances Bissell’s Chocolate Chestnut pudding
1lb tin unsweetened chestnut pureé 4oz icing sugar
8oz chocolate, melted 4oz unsalted butter
Mix pureé and sugar. Add chocolate then butter and mix well. Put in 1lb loaf tin lined with clingfilm. Chill.

thanks for that ... looks very similar to me. The nice thing about the HFW version is the egg whites are whipped so it turns out incredibly light and fluffy ...
mmmm chocolate ... I think I am having a Homer Simpson moment!
