Yup, it's still National Allotments Week, a fact that seems to have passed an awful lot of people - including my local allotments - by.
But I soldier on with my reasons to get an allotment.
Perhaps I should go back to why I got an allotment in the first place. I guess, at the heart of it, was my sheer wonder at the fact that a seed, some sunshine, soil, toil and water added, can be transformed into a tomato, a pumpkin, or a radish. I also wanted to grow vegetables and fruit that you simply can't buy in the supermarket: at least, not the ones where I live - globe artichokes, jerusalem artichokes, blackberries, physalis, yellow tomatoes, rainbow chard, black potatoes, pink banana-shaped squash, white carrots, yellow beetroots ...
Now, several years on, the idea of sticking with the dull inventory of vacuum-packed produce on offer from the shops fills me with horror. That's why my allotment brings me so much pleasure.
