Can not

My garden watering can is probably the most useless piece of horticultural kit I posses. It's red, cheap, plastic and cracked.

Down on the plot I have four plastic jobs of a slightly more substantial construction, which serve their purpose well.

I rather fancy the idea of a retro galvanised can, but they're rather pricey, plus I suspect they're not very ergonomic: I picture a heavy metal object bouncing off my shins as I trudge back and forth, and wince. And I wonder if they're the kind of thing that's all too readily pinched from allotments: they seem to sell for ridiculous prices in salvage/antique outfits.

What I really need is for someone to redesign the watering can for me. I'd like it to be comfortable to hold, tough, solid enough to stay upright when being filled with a high-powered tap and made of a recycled/recyclable material.

The only thing I have seen that comes anything close is these. Any other suggestions?

Rhapsody in blue The emerging colour scheme in my garden is purples, silvers and blues. It's taken a while, but my passion flower has really taken hold on my side wall and is now putting out loads of these fantastic blooms. Does anyone know if they make good cut flowers? Book recommendation I treated myself to Antonio Carluccio's Vegetables (the book, you understand, not his carrots) last week. It's contains a cornucopia of lovely recipes for the kind of veg you're likely to grow on an allotment but not find in a supermarket - well, a British one anyway - including chard, cardoons and chicory. Anyway, I can't hang around here, I've got to get down the plot and see just how many weeds have sprung up in the wet weather - and to assess whether my squash, which have had a rather sluggish start this year, have finally started to produce...
