Can I offer a small piece of advice?

Never, ever decide to find out where the snails that are eating your prized sedums are living, find a dozen juicy gastropods behind a wall and crush them with your shoe, only to remember that what you're actually wearing on your feet is not your garden clogs but a pair of fluffy blue slippers.

Let's just say I am glad they're washable ...

I hate stepping on snails. The crunch is just horrible. On the plus side, the turtles love to eat them.

Also not recommended - sawing through snails with a chain saw. Hubby did that a couple of weeks ago when we were cutting up the stumps of our apple trees.

Book recommendation I treated myself to Antonio Carluccio's Vegetables (the book, you understand, not his carrots) last week.
