I just tasted my first blackberry of the year.
It looks as if it's going to be a bumper year, looking at the amount of fruit on the boughs (I'll try to take a pic soon).
This particular blackberry bush offers the plumpest, sweetest berries I have ever tasted. I have already cleared space in my freezer and I am dusting down my preserving pan ready for the picking season. I could tell you the location of this bush, but I'd have to kill you before you nicked all my soft fruit.
Has bee nages since I berry picked. Any desire to pick brings back memory of forced picking as a child ostensibly "helping" mom and dack pick blueberries in rural Michigan. Many eaten, many thrown at me by older brother. Few contributed to the family pot. Closer to home here in Upstate New York, friend has free roam of his brother blackberry patch ... but so do the black bears. Facing a bear-mauling must add adventure to such a mundane task!
