Sorry for the break of service, chaps - I have been away in holiday in Cork, Ireland for two weeks. Thanks to everyone who emailed to check whether I was ok after last week's bombings in London: I was many miles away, watching the news unfold on television.
Full blogging will resume once I've had some food and been down to the allotment to check if everything's ok: not least the all-important tomatoes.
In the meantime, can anyone identify this shrub (right) which I saw while visiting the gardens on Garnish Island? It was rather beautiful but I have no idea what it is.
Hello Jane,
Looks like Cornus kousa to me.
Glad to hear you're alright.

Any relation to a Southern dogwood?
