Well, the good news is that some of the tomatoes appear to be making at least a partial recovery after last week's frosting.
I was also encouraged to see that some of the squash seeds planted a couple of weeks ago are now bursting into life, as this pic shows.
But what's up with the weather? It's June and I am still wearing several layers when I go down the plot: it's only with some hard labour - for instance digging out the big pile of earth created when we did some trenching to earth up the potatoes - that I dared to remove my woolly outer layer.
I'd decided I had left it too late to plant the sunflower seeds I'd bought months ago and then - ahem - mislaid until they turned up unexpectedly on a bookshelf (I have a lot of bookshelves). But Monty Don was planting sunflower seeds on Gardeners World on Friday night so it must be ok ...
Also, I have a question I am hoping an experienced rhubarb grower will be able to answer for me. My rhubarb - grown from a piece of rhubarb crown salvaged from an illegal dumping ground on the allotment site - has only really got fully established in the last couple of months. Is it too late for me to take a stalk or two for a small fool of some kind, or would I set the plant back too much?
