I visited HDRA HQ at Ryton today, and in a first for this blog, I've created a photo album of images. Enjoy.
On another note, I had recourse to the calamine lotion bottle last night when I realised I'd applied suntan lotion so cackhandedly that my left shoulder was completely unprotected. I don't burn badly so it's only a little raw ... slapped wrists all around.
I had planned to spend some time at my allotment this morning but it is pouring down. Instead I have just had a leisurely cup of coffee and enjoyed your Ryton photo album. It is one of those places that I have always wanted to visit but have not quite got there yet. One day ! The pretty allium whose name you did not get is 'Allium siculum' (nectoroscordum). Many thanks for the photographic tour Jane.

Great photos - really crisp and sharp!
As for the allium that you were trying to identify - someone has probably already identified it....but it's a nectaroscordum siculum - sometimes called allium siculum. Very lovely!

I would recommend Zapatilo del Tronco as a squash to grow. It is a bush variety, is very prolific and the fruit can be eaten small like a courgette or leave a few to get big for the usual squash experience. its a summer squash so doesnt keep a long time though...
recipe suggstion is tio steam the young fruits sliced up then mix with some fresh coriander, tomatoes and a bit of green chilli with olive oil and white wine vinegar - yummy
