I am in Salina, Kansas covering the GlobalFlyer attempt for Guardian Unlimited so blogging will be light this week. Not much to say about Kansas from a horticultural point of view so far, other than to say that the grass looks very dead and the landscape very flat. I did learn last night that Salina is known for its sunflowers, although it's obviously completely the wrong time of year to see that.
When I watched the morning news program today and saw the story on the solo pilot taking off from Salina, I thought, "Jane is in Kansas covering this story."
Hope that in all that flatness and winter cold that something makes you smile. Safe travels back home.

If you have a chance, check out The Land Institute while in Salina. Very interesting work: www.landinstitute.org.

Might want to check out Kansas wheat production through Saline County Extension Officer at County Offices, Salina, or Kansas State University at Manhattan Kansas or Kansas Wheat Board while you are here. We produce a lot of wheat in this state. Some of your readers might be interested in wheat production -- the substance of the "Staff of Life." Enjoyed your blog. Best S. Bash
