I'm baaaack!

Sorry for the break in service - I have been away on holiday. I've come back to grass that's taken on jungle-like qualities and a LOT of marrows. I'll say more about the gardens I visited in Scotland soon but for the moment I can say that Brodick Castle and gardens was probably the highlight.

Just before I went away I harvested my carrot crop. Tehy're pictured above - in their entirety. Somehow I think I might need to work on my carrot growing technique ...

Deconstructing compost I've started reading the Humanure Handbook which is available online. I have no immediate plans for a composting toilet but it's a fascinating read nonetheless, not least for some of the chapter titles: check out A Day in the Life of a Turd and The Tao of Compost. It's well written and, for anyone who is invested in the idea of recycling at all levels, it's (shit) stirring stuff. The reason for the season When people find out I grow organic fruit and veg, they say, "Oh, it must be wonderful to have all that lovely delicious-tasting fresh produce to eat". Most of the time they are on the mark: I am currently enjoying a heavy crop of yellow and red tomatoes: the red cherry tomatoes are particularly delicious. But it's not always the case.
