An hour or so of allotment work this evening was marked by light rain showers and mad attempts to keep up with the sheer amount of stuff being produced at the moment, only halted by the onset of complete darkness. The Major was in attendance and was particularly demanding of strokes, so every time I put my hand down to pull up a weed or pick a fruit he was there sticking his big orange head in the way. Somewhat precarious when I am armed with a pair of secateurs.
The squash patch is running amok, as is the row of spinach and chard. Tomatoes are now fruiting at full pelt: so far we've used them for beetroot soup and eaten raw in salads. I'm also planning another batch of glutney. Likewise the Hungarian sweet wax peppers, pictured above. I have to say the flavour of the peppers isn't great but that could be due to the lack of sunshine.
I've currently got a pot of courgettes (green and yellow) plus a clove of garlic (also homegrown) on the stove in the first stage of making courgette soup with goats' cheese. The smell is fantastic - garlic grown yourself always seems so much more aromatic than the stuff you buy.
