Here, as promised, is a picture of my favourite feline, Tripod. I have to admit he looks a bit scary in this photo but is, in fact, a complete sop. I should also point out that it is not my hand in the picture ...

Chutney in the works I spent Sunday afternoon making chutney - or rather glutney - using the numerous courgettes and onions from the allotment, plus tomatoes, ginger, cloves, mace, coriander seeds, apples, my special mix of vinegars and sugars (taps side of nose conspiratorially), a bit of salt ... I think that's it. After a lot of peeling, chopping and stirring. The result was six jars of condiment heaven, which I'll be enjoying with cheese, cold meats and salad. Personally I prefer "new" chutney, although many people prefer the flavour once it's matured for a couple of months. I even printed up some labels,...

A profusion of peas Eating fresh peas, stripped straight from the pod fresh of the plant, is one of the summer's greatest pleasures for me. Very few of the peas pictured here will actually make it to the steamer: most of them end up raw in salads, or eaten absent-mindedly while down at the allotment. And I wouldn't have it any other way, although I must get around to making the Italian classic, risi e bisi, some time this summer.
