Digging for dinner

There's an interesting piece in the Guardian today about how London's royal parks are considering setting up model allotments to show people how they can grow their own fruit and veg.

Of course my mentioning of the article has nothing to do with the fact that I wrote a sidebar for it on the decorative value of veg.

Talking of the decorative value of veg, I have some self seeded Leeks in my vegetable patch that have themselves gone to seed.

If anyone wanted to plant some leeks in their borders it would be a great way to provide something for the table and then let the rest go to seed for next year but the best bit is the flower head which are better than some ornamental Alliums I have bought in the past.

great, communities should do more to encourage sustainable living - composting, gardening, energy alternatives, etc. this is a commendable effort

I think there's already a quite big thing at the Dig for Victory plots in St James park. Down by the lake.

Bette Midler on gardening:

  • "My whole life had been spent waiting for an epiphany, a manifestation of God's presence, the kind of transcendent, magical experience that lets you see your place in the big picture. And that is what I had with my first compost heap."
