At first I found it easier to have a general garden themed playlist - Good Year for the Roses by Elvis Costello; the Green, Green Grass of Home by Tom Jones (even though it is about a man about to be executed!). Gradually more came to me - Above Ground by Norah Jones; Live Bed Show by Pulp; Jungle Boogie by Kool and the gang (reminds me of the blasted green manure I put in last year) and, of course, Green Onions by Booker T and the MGs.

And that was without breaking a sweat! Boy do I enjoy doing this sort of thing. you should have seen the 'Seeping Pustule' playlist I put together for my brother when he got a huge boil!

Then there's I can hear the grass grow - Electric Light Orchestra, Goodbye Blackberry Way and showing my age here a real golden oldie 'I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch' - not sure who sung this one.

I really enjoy your blog Jane and am looking forward to reading your book.

    Bette Midler on gardening:

    • "My whole life had been spent waiting for an epiphany, a manifestation of God's presence, the kind of transcendent, magical experience that lets you see your place in the big picture. And that is what I had with my first compost heap."
