Have you tried adding hops to your compost heap? I've heard they really help it along, but haven't met anyone who has actually tried them.

Hmmm... not sure where on earth I'd get hops although I did see some for sale in a garden centre recently... anyone else tried them? I can see how they'd work though ...

I have used comfrey, as it grow out of control. Works great. I can't spare the hops, but may add the spent vines to the pile this winter. Never tried it before. Worms are fun. I have red wigglers in a big Rubbermaid box. They make great compost, but you would have to have oodles of worms to add significantly to your compost yardage. They are enough to handle the kitchen waste of an average household, though.

what is hops and where do you get it

    Bette Midler on gardening:

    • "My whole life had been spent waiting for an epiphany, a manifestation of God's presence, the kind of transcendent, magical experience that lets you see your place in the big picture. And that is what I had with my first compost heap."
